Football

Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score by getting a ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily using any part of the body except the hands and arms (goalkeepers are an exception, as they can use their hands within their penalty area).

The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). A standard match consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a 15-minute halftime interval. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins; if the score is tied, it may lead to extra time or a penalty shootout, depending on the competition rules.

Football is the world’s most popular sport, with a vast global following, numerous professional leagues, and international tournaments, most notably the FIFA World Cup. The sport promotes teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness, making it a central part of cultures around the globe.
