Mayotte

Mayotte is an overseas department and region of France located in the Indian Ocean, situated between Madagascar and the coast of Mozambique. It comprises several volcanic islands, the largest of which are Grande Terre and Petite Terre. Mayotte has a unique cultural heritage, blending influences from African, Arab, and French traditions. It is known for its stunning marine biodiversity, including coral reefs and a wide variety of sea life, making it a popular destination for eco-tourism and diving. The capital city, Mamoudzou, is located on Grande Terre. As a French territory, Mayotte uses the euro as its currency and is part of the European Union. The official language is French, although Shimaore and Kibushi, two local languages, are also widely spoken. Mayotte became a department of France in 2011, solidifying its status as an integral part of the French Republic.
