Oligarchy

Oligarchy is a form of governance in which power is concentrated in the hands of a small group of individuals or families. This elite group typically holds significant political, economic, or social influence over a larger population. The members of an oligarchy may derive their power from wealth, family ties, military control, or a combination of these factors. Oligarchies can operate within various types of political systems, including democracies, authoritarian regimes, or outright dictatorships, and often prioritize their interests over those of the wider populace. The term is derived from the Greek words “oligos,” meaning “few,” and “arkhein,” meaning “to rule.”
